About the conference: The Criminology and Criminal Justice Conference (CCJC) is a creation of the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the United States International University-Africa. The CCJC’s mission is to provide the forum for academics, practitioners and students a platform to share research, good practice and strategies for policy and prevention of crime. The CCJC is the only conference in the East African region that is held annually and brings together academics, practitioners and students across the East Africa region, Africa and the World.

Thematic areas:
Instruction for submissions: Submissions should be of high standard, unpublished and suitable for scientific or professional publications. They could be theoretical, or field research based papers as well as practical/experimental papers based on individual, institutional or community experience. All submitted abstracts and papers will be refereed to blind reviewers to uphold the high standards of the conference. All papers should follow the APA citation format.
Papers are expected to have a uniform structure/format, Times New Roman font, size 12, 1.5 line spacing, maximum of 20 pages including references, appendices, figures, etc.
Abstracts should not exceed 200 words and should be organized as (1) title, context and objectives, (2) methodology, contribution and not more than 5 keywords.

Theme: African and Africana Knowledges: Past Representations, Current Discourses, Future Communities.

The aim of this year’s conference is to invite and initiate a scholarly stocktaking of the knowledge produced by Africans in Africa and the Diaspora in various forms—from scholarly work to artistic expressions—and to examine representations and current African realities and emerging futures with African knowledges. In other words, by stocktaking accomplishments and challenges facing African peoples globally, we hope to address the ideological basis of the current disproportions in the distribution of worth, power and wellbeing affecting Africans and diasporic Africans.
Although Africa has contributed more human and material resources to global welfare, it is ironic that it continues to be regarded as the poorest continent intellectually and materially. Besides, the ‘African condition’ today is a result of those past representations and the production of a knowledge that still represents Africa in popular media and scholarship as hopeless, poor, dark and devoid of knowledge. Obviously, the multifaceted crises facing contemporary African societies are rooted in and stem from old structures of knowledge production. As a result, a disconnect has ensued between academic knowledge, often produced from an outsider’s vantage point, and African lived realities.
As academic debates intensify about the possibility of producing theoretical knowledge with bearings on transformational praxes in Africa, it is an important time to rediscover and benefit from the Afrocentric canon and kinship between African and Africana Studies. These two different perspectives on African ontologies have been pitted against each other—separated by historical, political, geographical, and economic trajectories as if they were competing disciplines, and yet they complement each other. It is ASAA’s hope that this politically-motivated dichotomy introduced between African and Africana studies can be overcome.
To this end, and against existing hegemonic discourses, this conference invites scholars, artists and activists to look at old representations, Afrocentric counternarratives, and the futures that Africans and Africans in the Diaspora imagine and want for themselves. With a view to contributing toward the canonization of new perspectives emerging from both African and Africana scholarship, we invite interdisciplinary scholarship using empirical, theoretical and methodological approaches, including those highlighting African emancipatory traditions. It is an opportune time to critically challenge both dominant discourses on Africa and the inherited structures of knowledge production that still constrain our African imaginations.
The ASAA executive committee and the local organizing committee welcome the submission of paper and panel proposals addressing the theme: African and Africana Knowledges: Past Representations, Current Discourses, Future Communities under the following subthemes. The conference will present distinguished African/a and Africanist keynote speakers, award-winning films, inspirational performances and the opportunity to join pre-conference workshops.
This year’s Kenyan chapter of IFITTtalk on ‘Building a Resilient Destination through ICTs post-COVID’ will take place in USIU- Africa on November 27, 2020. The event will include a one-day postgraduate Colloquium on November 26, 2020. The event is being organized jointly by IFITT, United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa), Kenyatta University, Karatina University, and Mount Kenya University. In order to comply with the COVID – 19 protocols, this years workshop will be a blended one where a few members will congregate at USIU-Africa while the majority of the participants will participate virtually. The target audience is the tourism industry in Kenya with participants from the rest of Africa.
The first IFITTtalk in Nairobi took place in Kenyatta University on November 9, 2017 (https://www.ifitt.org/ifitttalknairobi/). IFITTtalk@Nairobi2017 received the Best IFITT talk of the Year Award during the ENTER 2018 conference held in Sweden in January 2018 (http://www.ifitt.org/ifitt-awards-2018/). The second, IFITTTalk@nairobi2018, took place in Mt. Kenya University on November 8, 2018 (https://www.ifitt.org/ifitttalknairobi-2018/) and received the IFITTTalk of the Year Award during the Enter 2019 Conference held in Nicosia, Cyprus in January 2019 (https://www.ifitt.org/ifitt-awards-2019/). The third IFITTTalk@nairobi2019, took place in Karatina University on 7th and 8th November 2019 with a Postgraduate colloquium on 6th November 2019, and received the IFITTTalk of the Year Award during the Enter 2020 Conference held in Guildford, UK in January 2020 (https://www.ifitt.org/ifitt-awards-2020/).

The International Federation for Information Technologies and Travel and Tourism (IFITT) is a global community for the discussion, exchange and development of knowledge about the use and impact of new Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the travel and tourism industry and the general travel experience.
Every year, in addition to its main eTourism annual conference, IFITT encourages the organization of local workshops in chapters around the world where its members are represented. These workshops are referred to as IFITTtalks.
IFITTtalk@Nairobi 2020 is organized around the theme of Building a Resilient Destination through ICTs post-COVID. The purpose of this seminar is to present stakeholders with scenarios where ICTs can be discussed with a view of informing, educating and enriching the knowledge of various stakeholders on the use of ICTs in facilitating destination recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year’s event will also include a one day postgraduate colloquium, where postgraduate students undertaking Hospitality and Tourism Technology- related studies will present their concept, proposals and theses. While much of the business world is facing unprecedented disruptions due to a combination of factors such as climate change, growing protectionism across the world, gradual erosion in the authority of international trade bodies, and the rise of technologies that threaten millions of jobs, the continent of Africa is experiencing rapid economic growth. Together with a few East- and South-Asian countries, several African countries such as Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania rank among the fastest growing economies in the world. Despite this impressive economic performance, the continent of Africa has not received as much attention from academia as some other regions of the world. The conference will bring together the latest research on the prospects and perils of doing business in Africa and also feature the current thinking on how the business world can cope with the disruptions unleashed by forces beyond the control of individual firms or governments.
Competitive papers, extended abstracts, work-in-progress papers, and proposals for special sessions are invited for the topic areas listed below. Papers, cases and proposals in pedagogy related areas are welcome as well. While submissions from all business disciplines will be considered, those focusing on the conference theme and the continent of Africa will be given special consideration. Doctoral and other students are encouraged to submit papers. There is a special discount on registration fee for students. A limited number of invited papers will also be presented by some distinguished academics and business executives.
All submissions will be blind reviewed, and a select number of papers will be published in the conference proceedings. Publication in the proceedings does not preclude subsequent publication in other journals when proper acknowledgements are made. By submitting a manuscript, the author(s) certifies that it is not copyrighted or previously published, has not been presented or accepted or is not currently under review for presentation at another professional meeting. At least one author must register for the conference. If more than one author presents the paper, each presenter must register.
BEST PAPER AWARD
The Best Paper Award, based on the recommendations of reviewers, will be given during the Gala Dinner on January 8, 2020. All full-length papers related to Africa and/or the conference theme submitted before the deadline will automatically be considered for the Best Paper Award.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Following the AIB “rule of three”, no author should be associated with more than three submissions. The manuscripts should be typed in a single Microsoft Word document containing all exhibits and figures.
All submissions must be submitted to AIBNEA@quinnipiac.edu. Electronic submissions will be acknowledged by return e-mail upon receipt. Specific instructions will be sent to the authors of accepted manuscripts along with the acceptance notification. The tentative conference program will be uploaded on the website of AIB-Africa and AIB-US-NE.
REGISTRATION
The pre-registration fee is USD 175 (KES 17,500/-) and USD 75 for students (KES 7,500). Registration includes a copy of conference proceedings, most meals during the conference, a reception, refreshments between sessions, and the Gala Dinner. Some sightseeing and tours to Maasai market and factory/tea garden will be organized.

This conference seeks to capture Africa’s process of innovating the future for itself based on a progressive embrace of what Africa is: young, productive, optimistic, and endowed in a state of transformation that is not only confident about itself but also unapologetic about its global outlook. Africa is moving beyond its historical tribulations and assertions of its greatness to a more conscious and dynamic agency for itself and its future. In this reconfiguration, it is creating an enabling setting for African innovations and sustainable development as well as the domestic, global and diaspora transformations that seek to capture this growing agency.
Africa is clearly redefining itself as the driver of its destiny by harnessing the productive energies of its ample youth, capitalizing on the synergies of its diaspora and making peace with the necessity of forging alliances within Africa and globally.
CONFERENCE HISTORY:
The Toyin Falola Annual Conference on Africa and the African Diaspora was inaugurated on July 4th-6th 2011 at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Anchored by the Ibadan Cultural Studies Group, the theme of the conference was “Creativity and Cultural Expressions in Africa and the African Diaspora” and it attracted scholars from all over the world. At least fifty well-researched papers were presented on various topics during the three days the conference lasted
