Nyakerario, Ruth Nyabuto

We are pleased to inform you that Nyakerario, Ruth Nyabuto, our Alumna, is a recipient of the prestigious Rhodes scholarship 2018, awarded annually to two students countrywide. This award has funded her education at Oxford University, where she pursued a Masters in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies in 2019 and a Masters in African Studies which she recently completed. She currently interns at the Rhodes Trust, Oxford-UK, ultimately, she hopes to transition into the fields of humanitarian policy and academia.

Recently Ruth ranked as the 5th of ten Rare Rising Stars, an award given to the UK's top ten black students. Ten students selected from more than 150 nominated candidates.

Ruth, completed her undergraduate at USIU-Africa in 2017, receiving a Magna Cum Laude in International Relations (IR). It is during this period that she developed a keen interest in Displacement, Forced Migration and Homelessness. During her time at USIU-Africa, she co-founded a community-based organization ‘Out of the Street Foundation’ involved in the rehabilitation, reintegration, and empowerment of street children in Nairobi.

While at USIU-Africa, she participated in several conferences, notably, the Harvard National Model United Nations that took place in Boston, Massachusetts.
