Library and Information Center Week

USIU-Africa Library and Information Center is keen to support teaching, learning and research through a host of collections and services that are continually being developed and fine-tuned to suit the needs of its community of users. To foster engagement with members of this community and increase the utilization of these collections and services, the library holds a number of events and activities. One such event is the Library Week which is to be held every year but was last held in 2019. This is a planned comeback event for 2023!
Dates: May 22nd – 25th, 2023

Theme: Read & Grow
Objectives: The Library Week event aims to:

  1. Increase engagement with students, faculty and staff
  2. Increase awareness and use of library facilities and resources
  3. Harness and share student talent in the library’s physical and online spaces.

Activities and Program
This event is intended to have a far reach while taking care of the constituents of our different audiences. Below are activities targeting different user groups:

  1. Bookthlon – A week long activity meant to get students to participate in various ways and win. These include:
    • Taking selfies with librarians and sharing online
    • Walking into the library and having coffee with any librarian – ‘Where is my coffee?
    • Tweeting a book review
    • Walking into the library with friends and playing a board game – Chess, Monopoly and Scrabble. Winners to be awarded.
  2. Sharing unique library statistic per day
    • The most borrowed book
    • The oldest and newest library information resources
    • The most frequent library user
    • The busiest library space
    • The highest library fine ever accrued
  3. A round table with Users Living with Disabilities
  4. A campus tour – librarians walk into a class ask only two questions and rewarding the winners.
