Mastercard Foundation Scholar Kasozi Joshua Marvin's film, "Agape: A Heroine’s Journey," has been nominated for an international award at the prestigious Focus on Ability (Short Film) Festival. Joshua, a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Film Production & Directing, is the director and writer of the film, which tells the inspiring story of Agape Moses Ayo, a fellow Mastercard Foundation Scholar from Tanzania, and an International Relations student at USIU-Africa.

Born in Tanzania with muscular dystrophy, Agape faced immense challenges from a young age. Her disability initially prevented her from attending school like other children, but with the support of her mother, Agape began homeschooling. Her perseverance paid off, and she excelled academically, eventually securing a place at USIU-Africa.

The film highlights Agape's achievements, not only in overcoming her physical challenges but also in her academic pursuits and community involvement. She uses her artistic talents in painting to teach students in her community, providing them with both knowledge and a means of generating income. Agape's story serves as a powerful reminder of the potential within everyone to make a significant impact, regardless of their physical abilities.

The Focus on Ability (FOA) initiative, now celebrating its 16th anniversary, has a long-standing tradition of showcasing the talents and achievements of individuals with disabilities. This year, the festival has drawn finalists from 20 different countries, emphasizing the global reach and influence of its mission.

Voting for the festival is currently underway, and the USIU-Africa community is encouraged to support Joshua's film by casting their votes. International voting is ongoing and will close on August 5. To vote for "Agape: A Heroine’s Journey," visit Focus on Ability’s voting page.
