Kenneth Kaunda Family triumphs again at African Day Event

By Safari Etien

The Kenneth Kaunda family, with its motto "Ambition Never Comes to an End," achieved another milestone by winning the African Day event for the second consecutive year. The African Day event unites Scholars in their respective families to bond through games, talents, and cultural nights showcasing different cultures. The event provides Scholars with an opportunity to celebrate their shared heritage, building a sense of belonging and unity among Scholars at the university. The Kenneth Kaunda family’s victories in 2023 and 2024 solidified their status as the only family within the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program to secure back-to-back wins since the event's inception.

The Scholar buddy system, also known as the family system, is a framework is designed to enhance the experience and foster a sense of community among Mastercard Foundation Scholars at USIU-Africa by providing a structured and supportive peer mentorship system. With a focus on Pan-Africanism and positive values, family leaders play a vital role in cultivating an environment that encourages strong relationships, personal growth, cultural pride peer support, and knowledge exchange.

To celebrate their achievement, the Scholars recently visited the National Museum of Kenya, where they were joined by fellow Scholars from various families, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and cultural exchange.

The Museum was an opportunity for the Scholars to explore Kenya's rich history and culture. The aquarium section proved particularly fascinating, offering insights into the underwater world, from vibrant fish species to crocodiles, snakes, tortoises, and an American alligator. In addition to the educational activities, the family also celebrated the birthdays of members born between January and May 2024. This gesture fostered a sense of unity and celebrated each member's unique individuality, reinforcing the family's cohesion.

The event also served as a platform to honor the outstanding participants who contributed to the African Day event's success. “Our triumph at the African Day event resonates as a testament to our unwavering ambition and unity. Our accomplishments serve as a beacon of inspiration for all Scholars, igniting a fire within to achieve greatness and leave a permanent mark on the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at USIU-Africa,” said Safari Etien, a Kenneth Kaunda family member.
