Free Trial Access to Selected eBooks and eJournals

By Azenath Ateka
From time to time the library negotiates trial access to resources of interest. The idea is to get a feel of the resources, experience them as well as explore and examine them for suitability in our university and for alignment to the degree programs at USIU-Africa. Currently, there are three publishers willingly offering free access to their resources on a trial basis for periods ranging from one month to three months. Below is a brief description of the resources on offer:

  1. Online Wiley has given us free trial access to over 100 eBook titles covering such subjects as Business, Economics, Finance & Accounting; Computer Science & Information Technology; Humanities; Medicine; Nursing, Dentistry & Healthcare; and Psychology among others.
  2. Wolters Kluwer is allowing us to access their Health Collections freely till March, 2022. These include: Health Library, Acland Video Atlas of Human Anatomy, Bates Visual Guide to Physical Examination, Ovid Discovery, Lippincott Procedures and Lippincott Advisor.
  3. Henry Stewart Publications is providing 21 Marketing and Management Journals collection which contains nearly 7,000 original, peer-reviewed case studies, vocational articles and applied research. The trial period lapses on May 1, 2022.
  4. On the other hand, the Taylor & Francis Group through the Kenya Libraries and Information Services Consortium (KLISC) has made available 5000 eBooks to be accessed perpetually.

The Library, thus, hopes that through such trials the campus community can interact with the resources and make informed choices so that purchases and/or subscriptions are just right. These resources are accessible via the campus network or the Virtual Private Network when not in campus. Besides, the library team is available to give guidance at libraryhelpdesk@usiu.ac.ke or askalibrarian@usiu.ac.ke
