The 2016 Eastern African Multidisciplinary Annual Research Conference (EAMARC 3) will be held at USIU-Africa, Nairobi on 15-17, November 2016.

The theme of the conference is “Sustainable Development Goals: Role of Research, Innovation and Capacity Building ”.


The dual goal of the conference for the next 15 years is to document progress, achievements and provide guidance towards the achievement of Global Sustainable Development Goals and Kenya’s Vision 2030. The conference strives to link academia and practitioners (Government, Industry, Civil Society and Sponsors - donor Partners) to exchange ideas of applied research and the practice. Therefore, development researchers and practitioners, eminent scholars, representatives of international organizations and policy actors, from different countries, will gather to discuss a variety of research and policy issues under the broad theme of ‘Sustainable Development Goals: Role of Research, Innovation and Capacity Building’. The sub-themes include all the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Notification of Decision:  September 30, 2016

Submission of Revised Papers:  October 15, 2016

Conference: November 15 - 17, 2016


Development researchers and practitioners, eminent scholars, representatives of international organizations and policy actors, from different countries across all sectors including government, academia, industry, civil society and grassroot organizations will gather to discuss a variety of research and policy issues under the broad theme of “Sustainable Development Goals Role of Research Innovation and Capacity Building.”

Abstracts should be relevant to any of the following 17 SDG goals:

  1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere
  2. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture
  3. Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages
  4. Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
  5. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
  6. Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
  7. Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
  8. Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all
  9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation
  10. Reduce inequality within and among countries
  11. Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
  12. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
  13. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
  14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development
  15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification and halt and reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss
  16. Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels
  17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development

Presenters whose papers are accepted are required to register for the conference and e-mail their revised papers by September 15, 2016. The power point presentations will typically take 10 minutes. A projector and screen will be provided in the presentation room. The detailed program of presentations will be communicated later.
