International Business Administration (IBA) Senior and current Miss Congeniality, Mercy Mwendwa, was crowned Miss Tourism Nairobi County at the conclusion of pageant’s finals held on Saturday, August 4 at The Carnivore.
Ms. Mwendwa emerged top out of 21 contestants angling to be the face of activities and campaigns that aim at promoting tourism opportunities within Nairobi City County.
The pageant organized under the patronage of the Kenya Tourism Board, received over 200 applications out of which Ms. Mwendwa was selected as one of the 27 finalists, before emerging among the top 5 finalists for the crown.
This is not Ms. Mwendwa first stub at pageants; she was crowned Miss Congeniality - a title awarded to the most supportive and socially outstanding contestant in the 2017 Mr. & Miss USIU-Africa charity beauty pageant - on Thursday, November 23, 2017. She then set her sights on the county tourism pageant title.
“Contesting for the Miss USIU-Africa crown in 2017 laid the groundwork for this beautiful adventure,” she said, adding that “As my first experience with pageantry, most of what provided me an extra edge over my rivals in the Miss Tourism contest derived my participation in the Mr. & Miss USIU-Africa charity beauty pageant.”
The journey to the Miss Tourism Kenya finals, continues to the regional level where she will take on pageant winners from Kiambu and Kajiado counties. Should she be successful, Ms. Mwendwa may very well make history as the first USIU-Africa student to win the national Ms. Tourism title.
