Introduction

Dear athletes and delegation,

Welcome to United States International University – Africa (USIU-Africa), which is hosting the 2nd edition of the continental universities 3x3 basketball tournament known as the Afro-Varsity 3 X 3 Challenge. The 1st edition was held in Uganda in December 2015, at Makerere University. This event is organised by the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) and hosted by Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA), through the host university - USIU-Africa.

For the foreign teams, we trust you will enjoy your stay in Kenya. To the local teams, we trust you will have a different experience in your own home, and shall assist visiting delegations in enjoying their stay.

This info pack contains all required details in regards to this event. Please don’t hesitate to contact any of the availed numbers for assistance.

Arrivals and Departures

Teams arriving by flight shall be picked up from the airport arrivals terminal by our transport team, who will have a poster clearly marked, “2nd Afro-Varsity 3 X 3 Challenge” and may bear the above logos/your university’s name for ease of identity.

All delegates travelling by road shall be received and directed to the secretariat, when they arrive at the Host University.

The same shall apply for departures - teams are expected to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before their scheduled flight time. Departure from the accommodation facility shall therefore be 4 hours prior to the flight.

The Secretariat

A Secretariat has been set up at the Sports Office at the old Student Center (Recreation Center) next to the basketball court. The volunteer assigned to your team shall guide you. You are reminded that all official engagements shall only be through the Head of Delegation. All delegates are expected to get in touch with the Secretariat on arrival for clearance and accreditation.

A lounge /waiting room has been prepared for the team to relax while waiting for the officials to finalise any paperwork.

Accommodation

Athletes shall stay in the designated Hostels. Students shall stay in double rooms, while officials shall stay in single rooms. Your Team Attaché shall direct you to your allotted rooms.

Payments

Any cash payments must be made to FASU and KUSA prior to accessing facilities, and a receipt issued. For all payments made by bank transfer, the Head of Delegation should carry along a proof of transfer of payment.

FASU T-Shirt: “We are Africa”

For your participation, you will receive a gift t-shirt from FASU. The t-shirt shall carry’s FASU’s visual identity and slogan, “We are Africa”, which is supposed to remind us of our responsibility to develop Africa for Africans by Africans. As university students, we belong to a category of tomorrow’s leaders. Let us use sports, especially university sports, to learn and make way for national and continental development. It starts with our belief that this continent is just not a landmass, but that “WE ARE AFRICA”

Opening and Closing Ceremonies

Both the Opening and Closing/Medal-Awarding Ceremonies shall be held at the competition venue. Teams are encouraged to dress in their FASU t-shirts for the Opening Ceremony and their university colours for the Closing Ceremony

Training Program

Gym schedule; the General gym (located on 2st floor of the New student center) can accommodate up to 25 persons at ago, and shall be open from 8Am to 7PM for the period of the event. The High Performance gym can accommodate up to 50 persons at ago, and shall be open from 8Am to 7PM for the period of the event. Schedule your access through your assigned volunteer

Court Access; we have two warm-up courts available. Each team shall be given access to a court on a scheduled basis, for sessions not exceeding 2 hours

Meeting Rooms; These rooms are four in total are located on the new student center and fully fitted with LCD screens and free Wi-Fi. A request for access should be made atleast two hours before the required time of use

Entertainment

The Host shall provide basic optional entertainment, which includes cable TV every evening at the accommodation venue.

Healthcare

University health services shall be available to all accredited participants, in relation to general medical support and competition related care. Any referrals however will be the sole responsibility of the participating institutions

Nairobi City Tour

Arrangements shall be made on request for a general tour of Nairobi city. The host however does not guarantee covering the cost involved.
