On Thursday, March 31, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul Zeleza launched the 2015/160 -2019/20 Strategic Plan during a baraza in the auditorium. The new plan will guide institutional priorities and activities over the next five years, as well as form the basis for divisional and school strategic plans.

Every semester, journalism majors under the guidance of a faculty advisor, compile, design and layout a companion magazine to the university's Gazette.

The USIU-Africa admissions department hosted this year’s first open day on Saturday, February 13 on campus beginning at 10am. Four hundred and forty five students from thirteen schools turned up to get an insight into the university’s programs, as well as get an up close experience of where they can expect to spend their undergraduate years.

On Saturday February 6, our men’s rugby team hosted the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) Monks at the rugby pitch, in their final match of the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Nationwide League. From the kickoff at 3.30pm, USIU-Africa RFC led from start to finish, thoroughly entertaining the home fans, who turned up to cheer them to victory.

USIU-Africa's ladies basketball team emphatically defeated Kenya Ports Authority 74-46 to successfully defend its Kenya Basketball Federation Women's Premier League title, on Monday, February 8, 2016. The epic match was the culmination of a best-of-five Final, during which both teams had tied the series 2-2.

USIU-Africa and France’s EMCA College of Animation (EMCA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop the first undergraduate degree curriculum of animation in Kenya. The event was held on Wednesday, 10 February and attended by USIU-Africa Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul Zeleza and H.E. Rémi Maréchaux Ambassador of France to Kenya and Somalia.

New report reveals that cybercrime and fraud costs soar to KES 15 billion

More than 80 per cent of Kenyans connected to the Internet are vulnerable to cybercriminal attacks, a new study reveals. The study, titled –The State of Cybersecurity in Kenya which was carried out by cyber security consulting firm Serianu in partnership with PKF consulting and USIU Africa, shows that the vast majority of private companies and public sector organizations also remain very exposed to cybercrime and internal IT fraud.

The United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa) has partnered with the Institute of International Education, to offer the Carnegie Africa Diaspora Fellowship Program; a scholar fellowship program for educational projects at African higher education institutions.

In the Kenya Gazette notice (Vol. CXVII - No. 107) of 2nd  October 2015, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya, appointed two members of the university community to boards of parastatals (corporations partly or wholly-owned by the state).

Following the Chancellor Dr. Manu Chandaria’s announcement in December 2014, of Professor Freida Brown’s imminent retirement, the university has been gradually preparing to say goodbye to the university’s longest serving Vice Chancellor. Already, a series of activities are planned for Fall 2015, to say kwaheri to Prof. Brown.

On Friday, 25th September 2015, Prof. Freida Brown celebrated her final Freida Brown Day as President of the university. Right from the beginning, there was a marked difference from previous Freida Brown Day celebrations. This year, the event incorporated a series of activities to commemorate Prof. Brown’s outstanding achievements, since her arrival on campus in 1994.

USIU-Africa GAME Center Awarded KES 33 Million Grant
The USIU-Africa Global Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship (GAME) Center has been awarded a grant of KES 33,883,211 by Cultivate Africa’s Future (CultiAF), a joint program of the International Development Research Center of Canada (IDRC) and the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

Nairobi, Kenya, 16th September 2015: The Board of Trustees of the United States International University-Africa (USIU-A) has today announced the appointment of Prof. Paul Tiyambe Zeleza as the institution’s new Vice Chancellor, with effect from 1 January, 2016.

United States International University- Africa students and faculty now have a chance to showcase their film productions to local, regional and international film festivals and markets as the university following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kenya Film Commission (KFC).

United States International University Africa (USIU-Africa) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kiambu County Assembly on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 to provide expertise to the assembly in research, ICT, media, library services, project funding, and capacity building to accelerate the execution of the county’s development and strategic goals in those areas.

Safaricom has partnered with USIU–Africa to launch a one-year mentorship program that will see students undertaking various degree courses at the university paired with mentors from the telecommunications company. 

Two bright but needy students have more reasons to smile about their future as they will be first to receive scholarships to study at the United States International University- Africa (USIU-Africa) and two other top-notch African universities to earn bachelor’s degrees and vocational and technical training certifications.

USIU-Africa's Global Agribusiness Management & Entrepreneurship (GAME) Center will on Tuesday 15th September 2015 launch "Expanding Business Opportunities for Youth in the Fish & Poultry Sectors in Kenya”, funded by the International Development Research Center (IDRC) & the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

United States International University-Africa hosted the International Trauma Conference, which commenced on the 26th of August and ended on the 27th of August. The Conference was officiated by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Science and Technology Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi and Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Health. James Wainaina Macharia. The theme for this year’s conference was Traumatic Stress: A Threat to Health, Peace and Development in Africa. 

The USIU-Africa Alumni Association hosted its Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 30th of July at Sarova Panafric Hotel in Nairobi that saw a new team take over the running of the association from the transitional committee.

The library has announced a new mobile device application that allows users quick and easy access to the USIU-Africa Library catalog. From their mobile device(s), users can now log into their account using their library login credentials to renew items, place holds on items, see what you have checked out, when they are due, etc.

On the 22nd Day of July 2015, AgriProfocus Kenya held the second "Youth in Agribusiness Trendsetters Caravan" at the United States International University (USIU-Africa).

Public Lecture ISOC

On Thursday, July 9th USIU-Africa hosted Mr. Olaf Kolkman, Chief Technical Officer - Internet Society who delivered a public lecture  on “Internet Standards Development and the Internet Engineering Task Force”.

The USIU-Africa Library will host the United Nations/University Librarians/World Bank Committee and the Kenya University Librarians Committee (KULC) meetings/workshops on 23-24 July 2015 at the Library’s Bookshop Room.

The University Librarian Dr. Sylvia Ogola has been appointed by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) governing board as a member of the IFLA/FAIFE Advisory Committee for a two-year term of office running from 2015 to 2017.

On Wednesday, July 8, Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic Affairs Ambassador Prof. Ruthie Rono announced the appointment of 8 academic program directors.
