Linux is an open source operating system that is based on UNIX. USIU-Africa became a Linux Professional Institute Academy in September 2013. USIU-Africa are able to obtain the:

Linux Essentials Professional Development Certificate (PDC) which equips students with basic skills in working with the Linux Operating System

LPIC-1: Linux Server Professional Certification which equips students with the ability to perform maintenance tasks with the command line, install & configure a computer running Linux and be able to configure basic networking.

Through self-study and co-ordination with the LPI, students can thereafter pursue the LPIC-2: Linux Network Professional Certification which equips them with the ability to administer small to medium–sized mixed networks.
